  • haven’t I haven’t applied for Marriage Allowance..Would it make  a difference..
My Wife works full time but isn’t eligible for the State Pension.
  • I’m beginning to wonder if it’s worth having a Part Time job.
I’m only doing it to get out of the House for a few hours.

I think between the Pension and the Part Time, I’m going to earn around £14000 per year..
I’m guessing this will take me over the tax allowance?
If you are under 75 you could pay £2880 in to a SIPP and receive £720 pension tax, so reducing your income tax monies.

Killie77, why are you getting so concerned.  If your wife is working and earning more than £12,570 then Marriage Allowance is a non-issue, i.e. she cannot transfer 10% of her personal allowance to you.  If she earns less than £12,570, then she can transfer the 10% to you.  It's worth £1,260 at 20% (or maybe 19% in Scotland) but is essentially a red herring in the whole scheme of things.

As your pension is less than the personal allowance (as it is for everyone) and as the Scottish tax rate starts at 19% and then goes to 20%, for every £100 you earn from your job something about £85 to £87 will stay in your pocket. Do you need to know more?
  • Thanks for all the Replies..
I’ll just keep it the way it is.
