grapefruit for breakfast?

hi . I'm being told now that I need to eat more healthy. as I was recently diagnosed diabetic. so one thing I'm looking at is having grapefruit at breakfast.
but what I want to know if I buy a grapefruit and have maybe 1/4 or 1/2 of it, how long does the rest of it keep once cut? also do you eat it just as it is, or have something with it? I novice to all this, I was bought up on cornflakes or bacon egg n tomatoes. any suggestions appreciacted.

Have you ever eaten grapefruit before?

Very 1970/80's and an acquired taste. Just a half would be the usual fair, on it's own, out of the skin....but unless you like bitter fruit, I'd give it a miss if I were you.

I used to have it as a starter for my breakfast followed by a Greek yoghurt. Some people put sugar on their half but it depends how sour you like it. Personally I would have porridge instead

    Ruby grapefruits are sweeter

Fresh orange and fresh grapefruit together make a refreshing 'fruit salad' and would keep in the fridge for a couple of days (covered)

Egg dishes are good for breakfast- protein & makes you feel fuller for longer.  Michael Moseley , the author of lots of different diet books favours a mushroom omelette but poached or scrambled would be good on a slice of wholemeal toast (probably unbuttered!)

Cut it in half and put the unused bit face down on a plate in the fridge and it will be fine for a day or two.  Or if an odd shape  put in a takeaway box (or buy a grapefruit saver, but why bother)- I do the same when cutting lemon or lime for a drink and have some left over.

I take Atorvastatin which comes with a warning not to take any Grapefruit products at the same time. Fortunately never been a real fan, so hasn’t bothered me.

We used to have half a grapefruit for breakfast or as an evening meal starter, it always needed sugar sprinkled on top to make it enjoyable.
We had special grapefruit spoons, one side was serrated to cut in between the bits. What a faff!

I love grapefruit - without sugar.
But then again, I cook rhubarb without any sugar and have it with Greek yoghurt or stirred into porridge.
And I have the drained juice with gin instead of tonic.

    OP
why are you thinking about grapefruit as opposed to other fruit?

We would have one grapefruit between us for breakfast so one half left over should be OK for a couple of days.

hi im thinking of grapefriut because I quite like it. with in reason. I only really like the sweeter ones like the little ruby ones you can get. I like all fruit really. grapes are nice and so many different variaties available now. but gapes are not good for diabetics as they are high in natural sugar.
