I don't think they can legally withhold salary, but that doesn't mean they won't. If you plan to travel once you leave, you probably won't be in much of a position to do anything about it either.

OP, if you leave without serving your full notice, they can sue you for their financial losses.
So for instance, if they hired a temp / locum to cover the role, they could sue you for the costs of paying that person, less the amount you would have received in salary, for the remaining period of your notice.
They can only claim for actual losses, so if they didn't hire anyone new but got existing staff to cover, they couldn't claim for a temp/locum, (although they could claim for the cost of overtime, less what your salary would have been)All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)1 -

Unless it's a really specialised skilled job where they would REALLY struggle to recruit, they cannot sue you in court as they have not suffered any loss.
If you are paid at the end of the month then just don't go to work after after they paid you for the last month you worked. Obviously if you stop working on the 5th then you will struggle to get your money. Another option is to overtake your holiday entitlement to make up for it.0 -
