Whatever you make as a batch be prepared to freeze a good part of it portioned up then you can just eat it say no more than x 2 per week- that way you don't need to eat the whole thing- like the chicken - for a whole week until you are sick of it!!

Think what you can add to change the flavour. Tinned tomatoes are good for that. I like to cook chicken (thighs) in the slow cooker with lemon & rosemary sprigs. A spoonful of miso paste stirred through makes a totally different flavour

Can you eat buckwheat? That would be a change from brown rice but allow enough time to cook- seems to take a while.
    Oats?

I think you need to make a list / lists of what you like, what would make a good snack (celery & carrot stcks with hummous for example) what can be made from the store cupboard....

I was having oats, but I noticed my weight was still fluctuating around my current 'floor', so I tried without oats and it seems to have a good effect, my weight is now below 15 so that's an indication that grains or cereals are no good. So unfortunately Buckwheat is out for now.

Ocado is out too, they are a little pricey. But I phoned my local farm shop and they had everything I needed in veg and all I had to do was read out the list of items. I can get the rest on my bike, since meat and food cupboard items are not as heavy and bulky as milk and veggies. I can surely manage one trip during the week.

@triade instead of using rice, how about substituting bulgar wheat?  It is high in protein and has more fibre than brown rice, so is slow to be absorbed.  Better yet, it cooks in 15 minutes.  Mr T currently sells it at £1.30 for 500g.

To cook bulgar wheat: use two quantities of boiling water to one quantity of bulgar wheat (i.e. a ratio of 2:1).  Bring back to the boil. Switch off immediately and leave undisturbed for 15 minutes.
