Pre employment check

Hi all,
I am looking for some guidance. Appreciate there won't be a one size fits all answer but any input will be greatly appreciated.
I work in financial services and have worked for my current company for 8 years. I have applied for a senior management position and feel I have a good chance of being successful - I am through to the final interview stage as it stands.
I am very worried about a potential credit check - I have done a lot to clean up my file in recent years and the only blemish I have now is an almost 6 year old default (due to drop off file in a few months and settled in 2020). My company policy states they will carry out a credit search annually for senior positions - I am not sure if this will be 12 months from starting the role (in which case I will be fine), or if it will be prior to starting the role and then every 12 months from that date.
I am also not entirely sure that they will see the default if the run a soft search, but if they do, is it likely to result in my application being unsuccessful and worst case scenario, could they also end my employment for my current role? If this is a possibility I will reluctantly have to withdraw my application.
Many thanks

Financial services is a wide spectrum of companies and despite all being regulated by the FCA and requiring fit & proper staff how companies translate that varies notably. Similarly "senior management" can mean a wide range of things... I remember visiting a clients call centre and going out for a smoke and two lasses were there talking about someone who was a "senior manager" but then said he was a M1 (that being the lowest manager grade)
Generally, the best thing to do with these things is to be honest/open about them... companies tend to be more lenient on those that admit their past mistakes than those they catchout.0 -
Hi OP
Re your current role/concerns. When you first applied and or during your present role - are there recognised procedures in place that puts the reliability on you to tell them about something that could possibly impact your job?
Have you held anything back or not told them something that you knew you were supposed to tell them?
it a hard one, only you can decide,
is there anyone you can talk to and trust without putting them in a compromising position?
How big is the comapny, could you phone anonymously and as HR, give them a senario of you may want to be joining the company and fear what you just said re credit check but not tell them you work there?
your choice its hard
Best policy in more often than not is complete honesty as this is appreciated by many good people and fair people like me.
Good luck
