IPA and sickness

Options
Hi all I’m in the verge of going bankrupt but currently on long term sick does anyone know how this will effect  the ipa interview when I get it. Also how long after going bankrupt is it until you get the interview

  • Couple of questions:

    1. Are you receiving benefits or still employed and on sick pay?

If you are on benefits and that is your only income you will not get an IPA. If you are working and sick you will be expected to claim benefits that you are entitled to to cover the shortfall between your sick pay/wage and your outgoings (housing benefit etc). Any IPA changes based on your circumstances and it has to be applied for within the 12 months of your bankruptcy. It can only be requested/ordered from non-benefits income.

    2. What do you understand an 'IPA interview' to be?

There is an interview to go through your application, usually over the telephone and then you will be contacted to agree if an IPA is being requested.
  • Currently on the sick and receiving ssp. Am currently looking into what help I can get whilst on ssp. What would happen if I had the ipa interview whilst on the sick and didn’t have to pay. But eventually returned to work. I will probably be in reduced hours when I do return so will only just be covering day to day costs. I expect to be on ssp for 3/4 months then slowly getting back to full time hours.

You will be signing paperwork where you agree to tell the OR about any changes.  So if on SSP it would be unlikely to be an IPA, you then go back to work, your income changes (and you tell them), any IPA would then be reassessed.

Up until you are discharged which would normally be 12 months but can be more.
