Barclays Greener Home Reward

Many mortgage companies are doing some kind of grant or borrowing for eco improvements.

However the Barclays one is actually pretty decent:

https://www.barclays.co.uk/mortgages/greener-home-reward/

It's £2000 towards a heat pump, or £1000 towards solar, or lesser payments towards insulation etc. If you are a Barclays customer.

It does require a TrustMark registered installer, but this can be added to a RECC or HIES membership for a nominal fee and basic paperwork (as these schemes cover all the TrustMark requirements).

I have heard someone has got it backdated for an install they had done before registering.

The scheme only runs until November and you need to register by the end of May - it appears to be a bit of a trial so maybe something will replace it.

Other mortgage schemes are for borrowing, which I wouldn't recommend, but if, like me, you are getting a HP installed it's an easy £2000 off!

I dont have any specifics but from facebook:

"Had just had an ASHP fitted by a Trustmark registered installer at the tail end of last year - but only saw the offer after the system had been commissioned. It turns out that as long as you are eligible as per the dates in the T&C's - claims can be backdated and you don't need to have 'registered' for the offer before undertaking the works."

Thanks again for sharing. Sadly, my installer isn't Trustmark registered (but has HIES certification).

After weeks of working with (badgering) Octopus Energy, they have finally confirmed receipt of their TrustMark Certification. Useful £2K off for any Barclays customer who is considering an Octopus Energy heat pump installation, now genuinely within reach of a gas boiler installation.

Looks like they've extended this scheme to 2024 - Brilliant!

I have just signed up for this. One of the installers I recommend have just achieved Trustmark certification.

Effectively, my upcoming solar expansion will now be subsidized by £1000 thanks to Barclays. Perhaps more exciting, a 4kW PV only SolarEdge system can be installed for well under £5K if you have a mortgage with them!

I'm mortgage-free but now you've got me wondering whether to take out a small mortgage with Barclays just for the heat pump subsidy :D
(I don't think the economics work out, and we're not yet ready to make that switch anyway. But it's a nice thought experiment.)

  • The scheme is valid for certain works. It includes 'external doors'. I have a porch, but want to get the 'inner' door replaced, as this is old and a lot of heat is lost through it I think. However, would this door count as 'external' for the purposes of the scheme? Barclays T&Cs do not seem to elaborate on this

You'd have to ask them. That said your FENSA cert will just say 1 door and your invoice will probably just show as 1 door, and it will be a UPVC/composite external door with external seals.

The porch is an unheated space so I think you could reasonably expect to get it for this.

Just received approval, roughly a month after our PV system expansion and subsequently applying for the reward. Entirely painless process.
