How long would i need to be out of the UK to become non-tax domicile?

Does this just happen or would i have to become tax domicile in another country?

I have tried and i couldn't get a definitive answer.

I was told it was six years by someone who had gotten tax by the HMRC for a property in another country.

I remember 17 out of the last 20 years being quoted to me, not sure if that is still true though (or indeed ever was)

Do you have a source of foreign income? Domicile and the tax consequences only apply to income received outside the UK. Tax is still levied on your income arising here in the UK.

The rules vary depending on the tax involved. The 17 out of 20 years rule was for inheritance tax. It is now 15 out of 20. See:
