Pay rise and resignation

Hi I wonder if anyone can help me - I received a letter from my employer stating my pay increase from 1st Jan along with a separate letter stating i will receive a cost of living payment also in Jan pay. Since then, i have resigned and am working my notice so they have retracted both. Are they legally allowed to do this, even though it isn't stated in any letter that it will not be paid if working notice. I am also aware they are paying both to anyone leaving due to the end of a fixed term contract but not due to resignation?

What's in your contract? If such payments are discretionary, then yes they can.
Are you in a union? They'd be able to advise more.Signature removed for peace of mind0
