Renting With a DMP

Morning,
I am hoping someone has experience with my query or works in letting and can provide me with some advice.  I've tried Google and the responses are so conflicting.

I am currently in the middle of DMP with Payplan and need to rent a property.  I am really worried about the credit check and due to the DMP and low credit score I won't be cleared for the property.
I have been told that Letting Agents only perform soft searches so nothing regarding my missed payments and DMP will show up, I've checked my report and I have no CCJ's  and I've never been declared insolvent.
I've also read that a few people have advised not to declare the DMP to the letting agent as they can't see it, but on my bank statements it clearly shows the payment to Payplan each month as DMP Direct Debit.  I know I will have to provide statements to the agent so are they allowed to go through them in detail to see my spending.  Do I move the DMP payment to another account and transfer the money each month, then only show the letting agent my statements from my main account my salary is paid into.

I can afford the property I am applying for and have a good reference from my previous landlord but due to the above, I'm struggling to find where I would stand renting a new property and how the process works.

Hopefully one of you lovely guys can help!

You are correct that a landlord's credit check does not reveal full info

If you know a letting agency will want to see bank statements then it seems sensible to arrange things so that what they see is a nice simple situation.

If you have references from previous landlord and current employer, those should carry a lot of weight. Good luck, and let us know how you get on.
  • Thank you, it's such a worry that it won't go through and advice on Google has been so confusing. I can meet all the affordability with my salary, its just the Credit Check that was a worry.

I'll speak to Payplan and get my DD moved over, I do feel a bit dishonest not declaring it but the letting forms only ask for info on CCJ and insolvency.

  • Try not to worry about it they only care about insolvency and ccj’s you will be fine
