Change of pay date

Hi
my employer is changing my pay date to the middle of the month - from the end of the month to the middle. Obviously this means we will be 2 weeks out of synch, instead of paying us for a 6 week period I have been told the extra two weeks will be paid when our contract ends ie if you leave the job. Can this be done?

Can't comment on legalities but once worked for a rather large corporation (think... responsible for London 2012 volunteers/security but made a proper hash of it) who moved our pay date from middle of month to end of month. If I recall info at the time was as we got paid (salary) in arrears they could/did do it.Aim:12mth Emergency Fund -> £14264/£17076 (83%) Aim 2: Mortgage Overpayment -> Paused until other aim fulfilled.0

What does your contract say?pll246 said:Hi

I’d have to check, but I’m pretty certain it doesn’t say they can do this. That’s why they are asking us as it’s a contractual change and we have been asked to agree to it.0

Check your contract and make sure. The more common approach would be to pay mid month with two weeks in arrear/two in advance, but if you work in an industry where someone might scarper shortly after payday, that could explain why your employer wants this particular approach, but worth asking them.pll246 said:I’d have to check, but I’m pretty certain it doesn’t say they can do this. It is a change to your contract, which may or may not be permitted under that contract.
Ultimately an employer can impose a change to a contract if you don't agree and it is then up to you (or you Union) to take action against them for breech of contract.

I'd tell them to go swivel.0

What does your union say? Typically, they must, assuming you have recognition, be consulted on such a change.0

Changing payroll date is fairly common - I've been through it several times - but I've never heard of withholding money until the end of contract. That sounds legally dubious at best.0
