Verifying old antique jewllery

No idea where to put this.

But my friend has found some 'antique', none contemporary jewelry. 

However he wants to get it checked if it's worth anything. It seems like some middle Eastern ring. 

Anyone know where to get theswe checked?

Dont sell but initially try a few high end pawnbrokers to get an idea of its worth and then if you wish try and auction house for a FoC valuation if possible.

I've seen tv progs where you get different, vastly different valuation and one lady had a old diamond necklace told it was worthless and sold it for thousands so be careful

Dont tell them you been to the other shops etc, see what they say and work on it.

A reputable jeweller will do valuations. My mother did this for her mother's engagement ring, which she inherited.

You need to be aware what the 'valuation' is for.
Valuation for insurance purposes will be higher than the amount it is likely to sell for.

A jeweller I used for a written valuation for insurance purposes charged me for it (although that was some years ago).
