Collect old mattress?

Does anyone know of any stores that sell mattresses and will collect your old one when they deliver? I live in a small third floor flat and would have no room to store the old one. I know the council will dispose of the old one for a fee but they will only collect from ground level and there's no way I could get it down there on my own.

Shouldn't this really be in the "I wanna" section ?
Sorry if that sounds picky, but a the mo there seem to be all sorts of posts popping up in the wrong palces which makes it harder to find things and use the forums correctly.

Is the old one in good condition?
There may be charities in your area that collect furniture for redistributing who will collect for free.0 -
Hi,
If you can't find a charity to take it you could try posting it on Freecycle and maybe also say that you are on the third floor so people know what to expect.
Good luck.

I know somebody that bought a new mattress from the Co-op recently and they took the old one away for her.0

Can't you just push it down the stairs???0

Cant you ask a neighbor to help you and get council to take it away. My local council charge for collection so your lucky, think its about £15.0

Thanks for all your suggestions. As I said, the council will take it away for a fee but they only visit each locality a couple of times a month. It would involve taking a day off work and finding a neighbour who was also home and then hoping that the new mattress was delivered on the same day or else sleeping on the floor! It would be so much simpler if the supplier of the new one could dispose of the old one.
I have recently had a new fridge freezer and washing machine and both the old items were collected at the same time.0 -
If we get the council to take something away at cost we have to leave it out the night before, you lucky to have a council that doesnt charge.
I think electrical suppliers now have to take white goods away anyhow if you have an old appliance, I think that applies to some non white goods too, although the like of Currys plug this its a EU directive I believe0 -
