Seafarers Mortgages

Hello,

I am currently working as seafarer and looking into mortgages. Does anyone know the best mortgage provider for seafarers - I've heard Natwest potentially? Would ideally prefer and bank organisation.
Thank you.

I have not had many of these, but when I have they have usually ended up with Natwest. Although that was pre-covid.
Natwest seemed to tighten up on pretty much everything after covid hit so I am not sure what they are like anymore.

Not sure which area you're working in, but if you're paid gross, one thing to ensure is that your tax returns are up to date so all your earnings have been declared accordingly.

I know of a company that deals with seafarers' tax affairs and also works with a mortgage broker that is aware of seafarers' situations. I'm not sure if I can post the company name here but happy to share if you want to message me.

  • Another seafarer here looking for the same sort of advice - @yorkiechick could I please message you for the name of the company too?

I have an accountant helping me with tax returns (as I am paid gross) and maintain detailed records as proof of time spent out of/in out of the UK - they are ok but not seafarer specialists and I would like the added benefit of the involvement with a mortgage broker.
