A lot of turkeys these days also have a little red popper in them. When the turkey is cooked through, the popper, pops up. I was confused last year as there was no mention of what this thing was on the outer packaging, so I removed it before I put the bird in the oven, and it was only when I took it out to serve it that my MIL who was visiting told me what it was for! Fortunately the bird was cooked anyway!0
