Contracted hours

I have an 8hr contract stating that my shifts are on a Saturday and Sunday. As I'm not needed regularly on those days the shifts that are being given to me are on a Tuesday and Thursday.

I work a fair bit of overtime but haven't been getting much lately. Due to this I'm  thinking of looking for more work somewhere else.

My questions are:

Should my employer be giving me shifts that are not the days my contract states? Is it unreasonable for me to ask for my contract to be changed to the shifts I am being given  regularly?

I feel that the saturday/Sunday contract makes it difficult for me to secure a second job. I also feel like I'm being treated like a zero hours worker. It also makes me confused about holiday requests.

This is in the.In My Home inc DIY forum. May be worth asking for it to be moved to the employment board. Have reported and requested it be moved over
  • I find that although your contract states certain hours often it just depends on the needs of the business. You could get a 2nd job if your current employer is ok. Then you can state what hours you are able to do and work it out.

I've experienced having a contract but different hours every week. I think they have to put you down to work something in your contract but doesn't mean that's what you'll do. Unless you specifically went for specific days because of uni, college, kids etc or they state in the job advert maybe set days
Some jobs might give you set days but I've never had that myself in my two retail jobs over 15+ years. Some places are different

Your holidays will be 4 weeks every Yr (I think) So you have a week off from work and get paid the hours your contract states.

You could look for alternative work or maybe apply and then see if your current place will let you do set dates? All the best
