How can I trace who the lender was of a property I had with my ex back in 1997. We split and I moved out and have had nowt to do with the house for 20 yrs. Need to know if my name is still on it and how I go about getting my name of it altogether. Tia.

You couldn't be removed without your knowledge or a court order of sale.
If you download the deeds for £3 from the Land Registry you can see the current ownership and lender details to try to jog your memory.I am a mortgage broker. You could also try getting your credit report from all three providers. There's a guide on doing that here.If you are named on a mortgage, it ought to be listed on your report. (It might not be, if you've moved around and the providers haven't linked "John Smith of 1 High Street" with "John Smith of 1 Church Drive". But it should be - and checking your credit reports won't do any harm anyway.)If you are still named on the mortgage, then usually the easiest way to start sorting that out is to talk to your ex. I suspect that's not an option for you (though if is, don't bother with the Land Registry or your credit reports; start by asking your ex if you're still named on the mortgage). If you are named on the mortage and your ex isn't cooperative, things could get difficult and expensive - but it's probably premature to borrow trouble.0
