Strike/Cancellation Rights: 2x Single vs 1x Return

Options
Hi, I want to book train tickets for a trip to London in March and book in advanced while the prices are reasonable. LNER are only offering Advanced Singles for outwards and returns. If there is a train strike on one of the days then I wont travel at all. As I'm being sold 2 singles I'm worried that I wont be eligible for a refund for the other leg of the journey (i.e. my outbound train is cancelled but my inbound train runs normally even though I've not been able to get to London). Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of this? Booking nearer the time will make it too expensive for me. Thank you for any suggestions!

I think most Train companies recognise it is return travel whether it is a return ticket or two singles. I can't see that LNER makes a distinction, but you could always DM or chat with them and screen capture their response.

I always purchase tickets via the train provider as I find refunds easier; I get discount on future tickets and Nectar points. Also, I've built up a relationship over ten years with one company and they are often willing to be flexible on Advance ticket refunds, or may be I'm just persuasive🤔
