Temp Worker Notice Period

Hi All.
Working as a temp postie. Starting last week my agency would book me in for shifts as normal, but then mid week a day before my shifts (was working at the time) they text me to say "tomorrows shift is cancelled" around 3.30pm. Once a shift is booked is there a reasonable period to cancel work with no pay? Today it just happened again. Not having any work available is one thing, but getting staff to commit to those shifts in advance just to have them cancelled with less than 24hrs notice seems a bit off as I can't get another days work somewhere else in such short notice. Been a good job other than this issue and potential something there more longer term, but can only take this so long.
Any information would be very appreciated. I had a job a while ago where temps got layed off early and they had to be payed for a week as they were booked in already, but can't see anything online about it.

I don't think what you have experienced is extraordinary in the zero-hours world.
Do you have a contract / assignment schedule and what does it say about this type of eventuality?0
