Stamp duty rebate on second purchased home

Hi All, I wonder if anyone can offer advice regarding claiming stamp duty back on a second property that we ended up selling.
My wife and I bought a second property (1 bedroom flat) 2 years ago with the intention of selling our original property and moving to the flat. Our circumstances however changed and we ended up keeping the original property and subsequently recently sold the second property.
Would anyone know whether we would be entitled to a rebate on the additional stamp duty we had to pay HMRC at the time. We appreciate you can claim back a proportion of stamp duty overpayment when selling your original main residence, however would this be the case when selling the second property instead?
We can’t find the answer to this query anywhere on the web
Hopefully my ramblings make sense
Thanks in advance to anyone who can shine a light on this
All the best

No, the sdlt is designed to refund when you move into the 2nd property and sell the original0

We have just successfully reclaimed SDLT on the purchase of our second property, having now sold the original property just over 3 years from the purchase date (usually 3 years is the limit, but COVID……). We didn’t expect to get it because of the time limit for claiming, so were very pleasantly surprised when it came through. As with anything - it’s worth a shot, the worst they can do is say no 😊0
