"Debt sold to a debt collector"

"If the original lender didn’t add a default, you can ask them to add one, then the debt collector will have to use that"

I had a debt passed onto a debt collector and they defaulted me almost 2 years after the original creditor closed the account (they didn't default)... can i still ask the original creditor to add a default on the true date then the debt collection agency will have to hounor it?

Yes of course you can complain.

Just remember there are no hard and fast rules here though, just guidelines creditors should follow.

The FCA handbook states a default can be registered after between 3-6 missed contractual repayments (so between 3 and 6 months).

If your account falls within those boundaries, then yes you should complain and ask that the default date be backdated to when you first got into trouble, inline with guidance.
