    If your lender allows it you should be able to port the mortgage. Beware though that if you are borrowing less from them, they may charge you an early repayment fee on  the difference !

    Yes you need to own the property for 6+ months.
    However buying a property normally takes 4/5 months to complete.
    Land registry are running rather slow due  to a back log ( Pandemic and WFH.)
