K tax code

Can anyone explain please? I moved jobs in November, and got a tax letter saying I'd moved to tax k794 and they'd added 7k earnings that they thought I'd not paid tax on, and I can't fathom why. I went from 56k to 67k basic, but no car allowance or anything like that.
What might be the reason? I've been on hold for a million years to HMRC

Usual reason is HMRC think you are still employed with the previous employer. That's happened to me twice. You need to contact HMRC to get this resolved. Calling them at 8AM is supposed to be the best time to get through.1

Have you looked online at your personal tax account? If you've not got one, worth setting up an account: https://www.gov.uk/personal-tax-accountBudgetBlonde said:Can anyone explain please? Explanation of tax code letters: https://www.gov.uk/tax-codes/what-your-tax-code-meansGoogling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
Is it possible that old and new employer may have both paid you in the same tax month. If you check the month number on the P45 part 1A and the month number on your first payslip from your new employer and they are the same or the payslip is earlier than the P45 then you have an overlap of payments.0

Absolutely this. Has happened to me too.TadleyBaggie said:Usual reason is HMRC think you are still employed with the previous employer. That's happened to me twice. You need to contact HMRC to get this resolved. Calling them at 8AM is supposed to be the best time to get through.0 -
Check your online account.
Probably just getting paid twice in 1 month.
It'll sort itself out Probably0
