in Cutting tax
Hi All,
I am in the process of submitting my self-assessment and on my final calculation under Income Tax Due, I can see a line item stating "
plus Student Loan repayments (plan 01)" with ~£7k next to it. I don't understand where this is coming for so any advice would be appreciated? Note, in this tax year, I paid my final fee towards my student loan and therefore it should now be settled. This was approx £1.5k which came out of my wages and therefore was officially cleared.
The problem I have with "plus Student Loan repayments (plan 01)" is that is is being added to my tax bill and I cannot work out why or where or how it is being worked out.
Any takers?
Thanks in advance

Just to understand correctly, were all of your student loan repayments taken directly from your salary, or did you set up a direct debit to pay off the last bit?
I had an issue with my self-assessment as I ticked that I'd been paying the loan back, but I didn't realise that I should have selected 'no' as I was paying the last bit by direct debit, not having it deducted from my salary. If you're in the same position you can select 'no'.
If you've said in your return that you are repaying a student loan and it calculates the amount based on your annual summary, assuming you were repaying it for the whole tax year, when in fact you were only paying it for part of the year, either:
a) there's a box in the self-assessment return where you can amend this, although I can't remember seeing this; or
b) you can use HMRC's online chat or give them a call to ask what to do.0
