    Hi
    Can someone advise
My daughter (18) has a Saturday job at Mcdonalds
I want to employ her temporarily within our tiny family company over the next 3 months as we have a large order to complete, she will be on a very good hourly rate

Year to date she has only earnt £1500 so she will be nowhere near the £12340 tax limit by April
    My question is
    1. When having a 2nd job, does the original employer (Mcdonalds) need to be told, or 2. can we take her on and issue a wage slip for hours worked with the same tax code that she is currently on
    Thanks
    1. No. They won't have exclusive rights on her time when she's only working a Saturday job for them.
    2. No. See https://www.gov.uk/new-employee/employee-information - you can't automatically use the same tax code as another employer.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Get her to complete the new starter declaration, signing or ticking statement C.

You then deduct basic rate tax from the first payment you make to her and submit the details to HMRC as normal.

A few days later you (as her employer) will get a new tax code to replace the BR code and you will then refund the tax on the next pay day after getting the new tax code.

The new code might be something like 1057T.

She will get new a new code for McDonalds as well, say 200L, which should mean she doesn't pay any tax at McDonalds and her spare tax code allowances are used at the new job.

As has been pointed out, you probably don't need to tell McDonald's about the second job but doing so as a courtesy probably won't hurt.  I doubt that establishment of that nature, McDonald's, would give two hoots about an employee having another job, but it might not be the best idea for your daughter's manager to find out indirectly.  She, your daughter, might quite innocently tell another staff member what she is doing during the week and said information may well work its way back to the manager as gossip.  There's nowt so queer as folk, as they say, and don't underestimate anyone's ability to engage in petty points scoring.
