The 'open' register and electronic identity checks

Hi,
I'm thinking about opting out of the open electoral register, and just remaining on the voting electoral register. I was wondering, if I was to do this, would it make me unlikely to pass electronic checks for savings account applications please? Trying to figure out the trade off here.
Thank you

The "full" register (the one that is used for elections) is the one that is supplied to the credit reference agencies. They have an exception to allow access to the full details. So your opting out should have no detrimental effect on instant account opening.4

On the ICO website it says this about the open register 'It is used by businesses and charities for checking names and address details; users of the register include direct marketing firms and also online directory firms.' - do these business exclude financial firms then as they can access the full one through the CRAs please?

The ICO doesn't really know what it's talking about. It is a chocolate fireguard of a regulatory body/watchdogForumUser7 said:

Is that allowed?1 -
I can confirm that opting out of the open register has no effect. I've opted out ever since it became an option and have been verified electronically many times

No, the financial firms can buy the open register (as can any other organisation or individual) and almost certainly do for general marketing purposes. They can check on credit worthiness by asking the credit reference agencies but the finance firms can't access the full register, the agencies will not allow trawls of the data by third parties, only data on a specific individual that includes the residence verification that comes from the register.ForumUser7 said:

Same here.

Never been on the open register and have no trouble with electronic verification. CRAs all show me as being on the electoral roll.

Just to add to the 'same here' posts - same here!
Opted out for as long as I can remember, never had any problems opening accounts (touch wood!).2 -
A number of years ago I did have issues with ID checks when I opted out but it seems things have changed since then.1
