Heads up, compers! In order to investigate a technical issue, we've had to move some of the older threads from Game Over into a new category called 'Game Over Archives'. It'll be comps from before 2017, so shouldn't have too much impact on your day-to-day Forum experience. Thanks for your patience!

Hi
Happy new year to all
I am new to this - and also bit of a technophobe so apologies if posting in the wrong place! I don't have any social media - will this hinder my chances of winning anything?
any tips on where to start - it all seems overwhelming
Was looking at the league table someone posted - can you really win that much stuff

Welcome and good luck. Probably best if  you have a scan through the items at the New Compers post here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4896515/new-compers-please-read-competition-board-useful-links which should help you get started. The Main Competition board is at https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/competitions-time/p1

and yes, you can win quite a lot of prizes. However, it does depend on lots of luck and the more  you enter the better your chances of winning at least something. You might win a prize the first competition you enter, but some folk enter more than 2000 competitions per month and still don't get lucky. Just persevere and have fun.

To add, don't worry about not doing social media. The more comps you enter, the greater your chances of winning, but that doesn't mean you should enter the ones you don't want to. I would say, follow the above tips and any that others add, but basically, just jump in and wait until a comping system 'hits you'. Also, be patient. Don't expect to win too often, or too quickly - but, when you do win, it feels fabulous.

    Good luck

Your pompous attitude and condescending comments have convinced me that you are very smart and important, said no one ever.

Try not to be discouraged - wins are a bit like London buses, you don't get one for ages then half a dozen come along at the same time! I enter 1500-2000 comps per month and count myself lucky if I get one win per month; for 3 years in the mid-2000s I won absolutely nothing, zero, zilch and almost gave up entirely but then won an all expenses trip to Monaco and had a lot of others wins in just a few months. Be aware that comps you enter may not be judged or winners notified for many weeks after the closing date. I recently received a prize which was from a competition last November, no notification it just turned up in the post.
Keep at it, the shotgun effect will eventually produce a result! (By that I mean that statistically you will win eventually, you do not need to go out and buy a shotgun....)
