Mortgage application with 5x Returned direct debit.. help

Hi
I've recently applied for a joint mortgage with my partner on a new home with nationwide following a successful AIP.
In october I was doing some internet shopping using paypal. I dont recall it asking for the payment method and it went through as the default method. Unfortunately this is not an account I use and didnt have any money in there. This came back on my statement as 5x returned direct debits on my statement within one month, one for each attempted purchase!
Of course the mortgage team queried this and asked for a satisfactory explanation, I explained the above and how I've since changed the default to an account I use to avoid this happening again.
I feel so stupid!! I had plenty of money in the correct account.
Have I completely ruined my chances of getting the mortgage offer through with this does anyone know? I'm currently waiting to hear back from them, but in the mean time losing sleep and feeling sick every time I think about it 🤣
Any advise/experiences would be much appreciated!

Its passed the credit check and is now down to underwriters discretion.
Assuming the money was in your bank account at the time (as in, if you had chosen the correct payment method everything would have been fine), I would like to think common sense would prevail.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Thank you, my credit score is 988 on experian (not sure how relevant this is) and never missed a payment on anything. I guess all I can do is hope the underwriter is in a good mood then 😬🤣 horrible feeling 😅 by no means am I the first or last though. Wish me luck, will update on here once I get an answer.ACG said:Its passed the credit check and is now down to underwriters discretion.

Were you?! That seems harsh.
Nationwide are not the most flexible of lenders but I did think they would do this.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
