Asking this for a friend of the family, we know a Ukrainian refugee who came to the U.K. 8 months ago, they like their life here and would like to stay. Currently they are living with our friends but would like their own place, they have been told they need to be here 3 years for a mortgage from nationwide. Does anyone know of any banks that allow this before 3 years, they got a job within 4 days of being here and earn roughly £35k so can easily afford a flat in our area.

Much will depend on their rights to remain in the UK in the medium to long term.
I'm going to ask the forum team to move this thread to the mortgage board where there should be more visibility from those that know more about mortgages.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. A lot of lenders require permanent right to remain and 2 years address history in the UK.1

Hi OP
They will need an indefinite right to remain in the UK and the other often applied criteria.
Personally, I can't see any lender lending without being certain that their money is covered.
Thanks1 -
There are lenders with much shorter requirements. I can think of four off the top of my head. Seek broker guidance to avoid wasting time on lenders who won't be interested.gh67 said:Asking this for a friend of the family, we know a Ukrainian refugee who came to the U.K. 8 months ago, they like their life here and would like to stay.
