    @badmemory - we've had solar panels for 10 years now and haven't ever told our house insurance people.  Don't think they've wanted to know about them, they've certainly never asked.

    We had solar panels fitted last year & the company fitting them advised us to tell our insurers so we did.

    I don't know anything about how solar panels might or might not affect home insurance policies. My only two penn'orth would be that insurance companies have a tendency to look for ways to avoid paying out, so I'd generally lean towards mentioning it, personally. However, as we have no panels & no current intentions to purchase any, I'm not sure my view is of much value.

    Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

    - When bought house £315,995 mortgage debt and end date at start = October 2039 - now £219,071
    - OPs to mortgage = £17,793 Estd. interest saved = £9,021 to date
    c. 16 months reduction in term
    Fixed rate 3.85% ends October 2030

    Read 26 books of target 52 in 2026 as @ 12th April. 
    Produce tracker: £78 of £400 in 2026
