Didn't have the chicken, it hadn't thawed. So instead I opened a 800gm tin of tomato sauce, dented tin 30p. Added chopped onion and mushrooms and served with spaghetti and some of the meatballs i made.
Tonight will be the chicken tinga. I've put half of it into the remaining sauce from last night. I'll serve it with rice. Then i need to find a use for the other half.
I've now updated my signature. £315.81 left for the remainder of the year.

Busy week again here, and set to get busier. OH's sister and her family are coming today for the weekend. An extra nine people. Need to baby proof the house, the youngest is only 1.
The chicken in the tomato sauce served us for tea, Then again for lunch the next day. The other half of it I added onions and mushrooms. We had wrap pasties, pasties made using wraps instead of pastry, with some. The rest did luches, on toast and in sandwiches, for three days. Quite a few meals for 50p.
This week I've also cooked liver, bacon and onions. Liver donated by neighbour. This did a meal for tea and one for the freezer. Hunters chicken, for tea and for the freezer. Did I mention I had picked up therefore kilo blocks of mozzarella, for £1 each? A lump of that inside small chicken breast, wrapped in bacon and covered in barbeque sauce. In the same bag as the liver, when I thawed it, I found a lambs heart. This was slow cooked, cut up, and has been stew for the last two nights. We've also had damson crumble this week for desert, HG damsons.
Today, S-i-L is bringing tea for us all, from the chip shop. Tomorrow I will make pizzas, using said mozzarella. These will be served with home made coleslaw, home made potato salad and salad.
Off now to check for stray Lego on the floor. Hugs to all, mumtoomany.xxxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.12 -
Wrap pasties?? Sound good. Do you fill the wraps with hot or cold filling? I Get the fold like a pasty, but do you then seal and pop in oven?

@peewhyeff, I warm the wrap in the micro for a minute, damp the edges, fill with sweet or savoury, seal, put on a tray, and heat in the oven. I quite like the top to go a bit crusty, hugs, mumtoomany.xxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.10

The weekend was busy! Nine visitors for the days, four of them stayed over here, the other five in a local hotel. OH's sister made two huge meat, potato and vegetable pies to bring with. Cheaper than the chip shop, many frugal ways must be rubbing off on her. Also lots of pies for the freezer, from near her. She thinks we can't get them here. With the help of great niece, aged nine, I made four big pizzas and a large trifle for saturday. Neighbour called in with a book to lend to OH, so he and the two children ate too. We now have lots of pizza in the freezer. Last night we had left over pie, left over pizza, chips, beans and tomatoes for tea.
Today I will be making a bolognese.
Haha @Pollie. that made me chuckle. No not their own, they keep sheep too, but none of them eat offal. They often donate it to us, rather than waste it.
I'm hoping not to need to shop this week. DD1 and her family are away till weekend, so we won't use as much milk. I think we have enough of everything in to last.

Needed milk, but nothing else, so OH just picked one up from the garage.
I cooked a whole chicken in the slow cooker, who we will be eating that for several days. I've made some mince pies, with home made mincemeat. The most expensive ingredient in it seems to be suet. Anyone made mincemeat without suet? Did you add any other fat, or just omit it complete? I hadn't bought suet for a long time. If I'm making dumplings I grate in frozen lard instead. Haven't notice any difference, other than to my purse.
Need to work out what chicken meal we'll have tonight. Hugs to all, mumtoomany.xxxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.8
