Well that didn't go to plan! I put the pork in the slow cooker, went out with OH to get a replacement part for the quad bike and pick up a bit of shopping. Came home about 1:30pm only to realise I hadn't turned it on!
Tea today was not pork, it was not cooked. I offered the little ones a choice of the instant teas from the freezer. Burgers, sausage or chicken bites. They all wanted sausage. So tea was sausage, mash and beans. Tomorrow will be pork.
Shopping, I spent £47.47 across three shops. Sounds a lot, but I bought a catering pack of bin liners and an 18 pack of beer, for OH. Food wise I got reduced Brie, big bag of yellow split peas (50p), sack of potatoes, big box of grapes, box of apples, seven pears, 1kg carrots (they had no pony carrots left), milk, frozen peas.
I spent most of the afternoon plucking and jointing three cockerels. They had started fighting each other, so OH dispatched them this morning. Now in the freezer.
Hugs to all, mumtoomany.xxxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.7 -
Hello all, how are you all keeping?
The pork is now cooked, so I think I'll do pulled pork with it. I have a bucket, around 2kg of barbecue sauce! Tomorrow I'll cook one of the YS stuffed chickens from Aldi at Christmas. Need to use up some chicken as we now have a lot. Having sorted three cockerels yesterday, another of last years hatch has started crowing this morning! So we still have two cockerels. Another is going to have to go in the next few days.
Tomorrow is sheep scanning day. We will probably,y be out much of the day. We have our 20 scanned with our neighbour, and help them to put their 300 or so through too.
Off to look at seeds and seedlings, hugs, mumtoomany.xxx

Ooh - hope scanning goes well, what's your target %? My kids would literally drink your bbq sauce - we can pay more than that for a teeny bottle.
We're off tomorrow for a few days but our veg box came yesterday so planning on making either katsu curry as can use up the parsnips, woolly apples and carrots in it along some of our 2kg bag of goujons from costco, or lentil bolognaise with loads of veg whizzzed up into the sauce

Morning, @beckstar1975 and all.
Scanning was fun!!! There were only about 150 of neighbours sheep to put through, I'd forgotten he had put half of his to the ram early, for early lambers. While putting them through I managed to trap my finger between two hurdles, I've got a lovely bruise now. Went to fetch ours through and one keeled over. Went from perfectly happy and healthy to unable to walk! Neighbour treated her with various stuff and we left her there. Will find out today if she's survived. Sheep!!!!
Of the others we have three early lambers, must have got caught before the ram lambs left, nine singles and one twins. The others are empty. The late ones are due April, the others whenever they decide.
That gap was due to OH shouting me. We now have two lambs, mum and babies, one ewe lamb one ram lamb, doing well.
Back later with what we're eating today, hugs mumtoomany.xxxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.3 -
Ooh that's exciting, and lucky to catch the mild gap in the weather. I'm always struck by how hardy so must be to be born in such brutal weather. Makes me gutted I can't wear wool as it shows how good it is.
Owe about finger, that sounds sore:eek::eek::eek: LBM 11/05/2010 - WE DID IT - DMP of £62000 paid off in 7 years:jDFD April20173 -
We're going to be having all sorts of of did the next few days, was supposed to be away but me and 2DCs went down yesterday as advance party and the place was just so bad we turned and and came back home. Means I've cancelled food deliveries and used stuff up:eek::eek::eek: LBM 11/05/2010 - WE DID IT - DMP of £62000 paid off in 7 years:jDFD April20173

Here they are, for anyone who wants to see them. Unfortunately she seems to be producing milk on only one side. So I've just tube fed the ram lamb, and we may end up bottle feeding him or even both. You think when your youngest is over twenty you've finished with feeding through the night!
sorry to hear your holiday is off, @beckstar1975.

This brought childhood memories from over 60 years ago! We lived on a smallholding with a few sheep, one pig & chickens. One of my jobs was bottle feeding any lambs that needed it. I named all the animals & got very upset when they were sent to market. Probably one of the reasons I'm vegetarian now!

Hi, @kayannie, DGS names them all too, fortunately his repertoire of names is limited to, spot, spotty, and spotty face. Lambs still ok. Sheep we left with the neighbour is now back and seems fine too. Hope they're not reading this!
The pulled pork was enjoyed by all, served with peas, boiled potatoes, and a choice of sprouts or corn. Yesterday I served the roast chicken with roast potatoes, carrots, roast shallots, and broccoli. Some meat left, haven't decided what it will be yet.
Tonight is pasta carbonara, sort of. Bacon pieces, mushrooms, onions and the left over peas and corn. All in a white sauce, served with pasta. Easy and cheap.
Off to make some cakes now, I promised the children some.
Hugs, mumtoomany.xxx
