Morning and thanks for the thread @ScarletRibbons x
Raining here and dark atm. I've another WFH day today plus BIL is coming with his two teenagers who are over from Ireland. DH will need to entertain them!
Despite good intentions I succumbed to more chocolate yesterday so that stops today. Although I've enjoyed the food, I'm feeling sluggish so need to rein it in. Am starting the day with fruit, and dinner will be a SW chicken and leek recipe.
I will do some washing today and pop the airer up in the spare room. The only TD usage atm is for DS2's McDs uniform of which he has two sets which can't be washed with anything else and need a quick turnaround as he has back to back shifts this week.
I popped to the High Street yesterday and got a diary in The Works plus 3 books for £1 each. Also went into my fave CS (YMCA) but nothing caught my eye - just as well as they were only taking cash due to a glitch. I have downloaded the Lidl app and will be shopping there this week. Haven't tried Lidl before so expect it will take twice as long to get around the store! Any recommendations peeps?
Hope all the poorlies are doing okay and sending hugs to those in need.
Have a good day

Morning folks, thanks for starting us off Scarlet. I was awake much earlier, put on a podcast and fell asleep again. 💤. It's very wet and still dark here, it may remain that way all day.My trip to Oban yesterday was fine despite the atrocious weather. My friend seems to have bought a huge amount though a lot of it was staples and stocking up. They've been without a car for a couple of weeks now so were running down their supplies. I'll make sure I take him or her regularly. He made me giggle when he pulled on waterproof over-trousers and a waterproof jacket whilst wearing soft suede shoes. 😀Later in the afternoon the chap up the hill called in with his son and dog. They'd been for a long walk and needed a wee heat. Luckily I had laid the stove so it soon fired up. He was happy to have a dram and I was happier to accompany him. Poor lad had to settle for 'Adam's Ale' as I don't drink or keep soft drinks.Today I have nothing to do which will distract me from being idle. My plan was to visit my elderly friend but his wife's four adult children and two GC are staying so I'll not add to the melee.Coxy - I'm another one fed up eating Christmas food though I have some to plough through. My cut off point is Saturday.DP1 - it was delightful to read about the pirate adventures, I wish we didn't lose the sense of imagination or love of play which young children have. 🛝Nelski. - what a shame about losing touch with Holly, you both seemed so close. I hope that she's doing well. Perhaps she's moved in with her brother?Mehfin - how are you feeling now?Camelot - Did you go back to bed after your airport run? I really hope so.
TA - are you OK?Right, I'm being forced to get up by my bladder. I'm thinking of all our poorlies.Happy Friday to all. 🙋♀️9 -
Morning all. Raining again!
Yesterday I made the effort to go to the City Centre as I needed to return something in JL. Also picked up some half price Christmas cards and a couple of other bits. After that I made the most of a dry day and went back out to do a bit of geocaching.
Things slipped somewhat after lunch and I spent far too much time sitting on the sofa, browsing the laptop. We also nibbled far too much, including some delicious Christmas pudding biscuits from M&S, and neither of us felt like eating the curry I had planned for dinner. That's now been moved on to today.
This morning I've made a list for a proper food shop, although it's mainly fresh fruit and veg, then I have some ironing to do. Have also been sent a list of tunes for a workshop I'm attending in early Feb so need to have a look at those.
Hope everyone's day goes well.

Morning All
Well, that was an early start - 3.30 to leave at 4 to take DS2 and his DP to the airport. The roads are all flooded as we've had constant heavy rain for the past 48 hours, one part was particularly bad near home so came back a different way. I've been back to bed for an hour but feel slightly out of it at the moment!
DD, DP and the little one came for a picky tea last night so they could see DS2 before they went home. Little one was really tired and didn't join in too much, just wanted to read and snuggle in.
Lovely to hear from you Florence, well done on all your work with the SA, I'm sure it's very much appreciated.
I'm not a fan of Lidl at the moment Coxy, too many gaps in their aisles and the fruit and veg doesn't seem to last very long at all but that may just be this store. It's also further away so I tend to use Aldi. I do, however, like their tinned fish.
I may start to gather the Christmas decorations later ready to take the tree down tomorrow, I like to have a clean and clear house for the new year. There's also all the bedding to do but that can wait until there is space to get it dry. We've only had the fire lit all week and no central heating on but it's still nice and cosy.
Hope you're doing well Ruby.
Hugs to you NRA.
Take care. XX

Morning all. I'm back and raring to go on two projects I've self imposed - Change the billy bookcases currently holding my kitchen supples to some racking I rescued from a skip, and fix/alter/adjust the fire surround I picked up from FBMP last year. Next year I am determined to have at least two rooms that are finished and habitable and need nothing doing to them. I have the slicer to make the meat freezer friendly so I'll also slice that up later. So no more Vivienne Westwood.. Im must admit, i kind of idolised her, I saw no bad bits, only her spirit of f u...I hope Esme sticks around for a while too.Florence, sorry to hear about your friend. Coxy, Lidl is good depending on who you talk to and where it is. Ours are fine, the three pack of tuna for under 3 quid are good, ditto pasta, passata, jarred bits and pieces, cleaning stuff, the meat, the cured meats, the promotions from other countries, especially the greek and italian ones, their fresh bakery items, free range [?] eggs, hortus gin, the prosecco, wine etc, they're all good. I have one less that five minutes in the car and it's great. I do most of my shopping in there, except I am not a fan of their packets of onions, i like bigger ones from tesco or Sainsbury. Right, I'm orf to do stuff, so have a good day, if you're not well or just had enough, I play some nice soothing music...。❅*⋆⍋*∞*。*∞*⍋⋆*❅。

Morning everyone,
please can I join?
I am back here after an absence of about 10 years 🙈.
I went from being a stay at home mum and having time to read about and do all the money saving and then back to working life and as I earned more and had less time it seemed less important to be mse.
I had a stark eye opener two days ago when I “did our banks” and loaded onto my budgeting app (which I’d always kept more for tracking than sticking too). The amount we spent on Christmas was obscene and even more so that what I expected it to be was less than half of what it was. I felt sick and rather ashamed of it and that’s when I realised I need to come back.We have a very large mortgage that will soon come off its fix and jump astronomically and our energy and food bills are eye watering. We have little savings too so while it seems we are doing well, we in fact need to refocus and realign!First step is to go frugal again and try and save as much as possible to pay towards the mortgage capital when we renew so the monthly payment is as manageable as possible. Next to pay off a family loan and increase our savings to a level that would cover us if we needed it.So yesterday I started by updating our banks and moving our emergency pot and mortgage op pot from an instant saving account at 0.5% to a new Zopa instant account at 2.86%.
I then went to town and banked the childrens Christmas money and bought only needs - two toilet brushes and a scourer £2.75 plus the parking £0.90.
today I am going to move a small amount of savings into a Zopa fixed 1 year account at 4.25% I am confident we won’t need to touch this for a year. This was in an isa at 1.5%.
also going to look at my phone contract as think it’s up for renewal so may be able to reduce the monthly cost and get cash back.Am also going to get my nails done, this is my hobby and form of self care so I budget for this. I won’t however go in any shops - just there and back :-)
thanks for listening, I’m hoping to jump on the daily post each morning to keep me focused for the day.I love reading your updates.

Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(7 -
Morning all, thanks for starting Scarlet. We had a lovely lunch with DN & his wife, we hadn't seen them since they moved, she's from Canada & they are back near to her family. We were meant to meet just as lockdown started so that never happened. Great to catch up on all their news & the trek across the Pennines was busyish but no delays. We set off back before it went dark and were treated to a lovely sunset view at one of the high points.I made a curry for tea when we got back but ate later than usual.I put the washer on too, and we all rushed to press stop when it was on the spin cycle, making the most horrendous racket, so DH is taking a look at it right now. Luckily the stuff in it was spun enough to get it out to dry, so hope we don't have a new year expense of a new washer.DS2 and DGS called on his way back to taking him back to his Mum, they'd been swimming with DGD earlier & all seem to enjoy it.Not sure what we'll eat tonight, all the C stuff is either eaten or frozen now. I may nip in town to see if there are any bargains.Welcome back IWAB, good to get your finances under control while you've got a chance.Hugs to the poorlies, bye for now x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning all its been a busy few days we had all the family then DD2 and Matthew stayed a few extra days so we popped to see elderly relatives and friends with him he seems to enjoy being the star of the show . I have been to Aldi this morning and had to visit the PO as DD2 left a small piece of her pump in the steriliser and they are off to Avimore skiing next week then on to Lossiemouth where Dsil grew up on a RAF base .
I will be doing a load of washing as everything seems to have been let go for the last week and making shepherds pie made with leftover lamb and veg from xmas day we froze the bits we had left so now its just using them up creatively
Have a good day whatever your up to stay safe warm and dry xxSlava Ukraini7
