My sister in law has just had a baby boy, and my partner and I have been thinking of a gift. We've been thinking of buying something that can be kept and add value for when they are older such as an aging bottle of alcohol, premium bonds , savings account etc.
Wondered what gifts others have given we can take as inspiration.
Thanks !

The savings account that springs to mind is a Junior ISA. However, money can not be accessed until the 'baby' turns 18 years old! This year the maximum you are permitted to put in is £9 k. I guess you are thinking of a smaller amount.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Our Nephew had his first baby 4 years back and our two Nieces had their first born in the past year.
We thought about what to do in terms of gifts and decided that a cash gift was the most appropriate overall as it is for the parents to decide what the priorities were for the child.
That priority was different in each case, the Nephew needed money for the there and then things (literally, nappies) whereas the two Nieces both bought premium bonds for the babies.
We also bought a STEIFF bear in each case with the year in the foot, like this:

The eldest of the children is now four and understands that the bear has her birth year sown in.
The aging whisky is a novel idea, but you may find yourself explaining, and will it be an asset or turn to waste in all those years? When does it transfer to become the baby's decision rather than the parent's decision?
Another source of ideas could be any jewellers, where they normally have a section for Christening gifts.1 -
Were bought these for babies in the family though I wouldn't expect them to increase in value

For my own children we bought them each a sovereign of their birth year, and I expect we'll continue the tradition with any future grandchildrenMake £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023
