Can I buy health insurance for someone else?

Money, health, this seems to be the right forum.

I want to start some health insurance for my son, however circumstances a bit unusual.

Firstly he is age 40+. He is not earning. He Lost his job a few years ago and is trying to make a new career  in creative arts/fashion, where are you can do well  if you make it but he so far is with a lot of critical praise but little income. He has no reserves after a divorce, and I am practically (and willingly) supporting him. 

So I thought in the New Year I would relieve him of one worry by buying him health insurance. But then I looked into it, consulting e.g. Which, and it looks like a thing to not get off the shelf but he has to do it, preferably through a broker, individualised. At which point I could of course just pay him extra on top of what I do now. Just somehow that it's not a seasonal present, also maybe there will be IHT advantages from me paying the insurance company in its first years.

Sounds like a silly question when I write it down, but maybe no harm in  letting it be knocked around a bit.

You're better off asking in the insurance section as there are a few who deal with different insurances and will know.
