Is there a link you can access before Christmas Eve to put in purchases from the sale? I always seem to miss out on the day.

The M&S sale is on now, there's not a specific day. You can put purchases in your basket but once the sale's over the prices will revert to what they were before. And if they get sold out your basket will empty automatically. The only way you can be sure of a sale is if and when you pay.
If you have an M&S Sparks card, you can sometimes get better bargains and faster notifications of sales, etc. but I'm not sure if there's a special link.
