I used to love a pudding called honeycomb mould which had a jelly and a mousse layer.

  • coffee in Germany & Holland served with 'milk'- yes, evaporated milk...

I was slugging down Baileys the other evening and it brought to mind childhood memories of the hot milk in Spain. Am pretty sure it was sterilised but it was lovely in coffee, according to Trolley it's available in Aldi but no sign of it on the shelves.

I am going to give evap a go and I dare say will enjoy it!

Plenty of branded evaporated milk in Sainsburys today but only large tins of own brand low fat version.  Must be a supply issue.

Thought I would finally get around to making the no bake lemon cream pie- or whatever you want to call it. Small problem as it seems there is no lemon jelly!! well not in Tesco's!

Just looked on the trolley website and it is only showing at Sainsbury's. I call that favouritism... I wasn't near them and would I really go specially for just this item?
back to the drawing board: I was going to have pineapple in lemon jelly. Thwarted.

I haven't seen gelatine-free jelly in supermarkets for well over a year. I like to keep a couple of packets in the cupboard as trifle is an easy dessert to pull together if I am catering for the many.

ah, but I'm sure pineapple in lemon jelly works fine when it's in the mousse type recipe as my first post- 'cos I used to make it way back when......... when the recipe was first printed!! and you could buy - was it- crushed pineapple? Came in a tall tin and much cheaper than cubes or rings

it's weird really that lemon jelly has pretty much vanished. Aldi have their own orange, strawberry & raspberry if I remember rightly (I mean cubes- not the ready made pots!)

Kiwi fruit certainly stop jelly setting: been there and bought that T shirt!

Have to admit I've only tried to do fresh pineapple in jelly so perhaps there's something about the crushed pineapple in tins that means it works!  Not even sure they still sell crushed pineapple although haven't bought any tinned fruit for ages so not even looked!

Must admit I've only seen orange, strawberry and raspberries jelly recently.  I know a while back Morrisons were selling a lemonade jelly as crystals but haven't been able to get that one recently either.

No I think crushed pineapple has long gone! (had a great Mary Berry fruit cake that used that as a main ingredient)

I've only ever used tinned pineapple for the dessert- really because fresh ones then were unheard of!!! i was thinking the cheapie tinned peaches would go well in it- guess it will be an orange jelly.....

You can still lime jelly, or lime & lemon as crystals. I clearly have old fashioned tastes!
