I lost my job because I have rheumatoid Arthritis. Mine effects my hands quite a lot and the job I was doing, I couldn't do. Plus my employer were unwilling to change any part of the job. I don't mean change, but I can't think of the words, brain fog.
My employers didn't really want to do anything and literally did everything they could not to.

But that's neither here nor there in your partner's case. Nobody is really going to know only his employers will. I'm not sure if they have to be a bit more relaxed in the sickness time, It been a few years for me so I'm not up to date on employment law, hopefully some more knowledgeable than me can help with that.

He has my deepest sympathy for this awful disease, it's ruined my life in so many ways.
I am so sorry to see what this has done to you, that's awful, I hope some good has come out of it for you?

His affects him in any areas but at the moment its in his knees
Mine started in my left knee then it was in both knees and it went everywhere from there on. It is a symmetrical disease, so eventually it will move around and be everywhere, it's not like osteoarthritis, it's the immune system that has gone haywire. Mine is semi under control thanks to awful medication I swallow daily. Aside from not being able to do things that I used to and everything taking ages, even simple things like getting out of bed, I'm still grateful for every day and that I'm still here.

Anyhow enough of my mythering, I came to say that I found great help from the disability law service,  https://dls.org.uk/. NRAS have some great booklets that you can get them to send to you and loads of other info that I have found very helpful. https://nras.org.uk/

As he works for the local authority, hopefully they'll be more clued up on disability and go easy on him. Being off sick or hospital appointments are out of his control. I do hope they'll be understanding but if he is called for meetings, as others have said, take a union rep or another colleague with him.
