What does her agreement say re cancellation?0

It's really difficult to say without seeing the contract she signed. Others may have had a similar situation, but the particular contract they signed could well be different to the one your mother-in-law signed. To put another slant on it, why is she wanting to cancel the agreement - is it because she wants to find someone else who can fit a boiler earlier than they can? If that's the case then I can understand the reasoning behind it - but have you actually found someone who would be able to do it before Christmas? Most decent tradesmen are booked up weeks in advance anyway, and plumbers/heating engineers will be particularly busy at this time of year. So if it's just the timescales she's concerned about, it might be wise to see what options are available before trying to cancel the existing agreement.0

Cancelling the finance agreement will not necessarily cancel the order for the boiler, as they are possibly separate contracts-so she would have to find another way of paying for it, if so.
Check her contract and see what it says. Worth pointing out that BG are typically 40% more expensive for a new install than what a local GSR RGI would charge.
I agree with the above comment. It's unlikely she would find anyone else to install it before Christmas anyway.

Actually, that's a decent deal.
I'd not read it properly and have edited my post, incase anyone read it prior.0 -
The motto is not to buy anything from British Gas. Everything they sell is overpriced because people automatically think of them when they want a new boiler - my late mother included who paid twice what I could have had the work done for by a reliable and competent company. But I didn't know about it until she'd had the work done."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
