Hi, @Glittering_M. Just as long as they're not cooked, they should be fine. It always used to be that peanuts still in their shells were raw, but i have recently seen peanuts in shells that are already roasted. I've also had some success planting root ginger. I put a piece in the ground in the polytunnel, it had started to grow. Then we put the chickens in there, (bird flu prevention) as we had holes in the barn roof and they needed to be housed. They dug it up and ate it! That was a couple of years ago, so I'm trying again. I often find avocado stones that have rooted in the compost heap. Most things will try to grow. Good luck, mumtoomany.xxxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.11

Glittering_M said:@Frugaldom a friend has a wild cherry or plum (I can't remember which) that has sent out lots of runners and some are now mini trees.
They are looking to clear then but is it possible to save any of the saplings and grow somewhere else or do they not take to that? I'd quite like some in my garden.I reserve the right not to spend.

Well done @aspella That seems amazing for 7 if you..Hopefully, your frugal ways are running off on all concerned.
More Olio success here so I'm still making strange concoction meals. We did get bread this week, along with cucumbers, so that means sandwiches and toasties are back on the menu.
Plenty going on at Frugaldom to utilise al the logs from tree cutting. It's quite sad seeing how lifeless these trees are when compared to the native ones.
Still haven't sown any seeds but will make that my priority garden task of today, along with making a cold frame from some old caravan windows I salvaged.
Hope everyone is having a positive, frugal weekend. Good luck to all the premium bond holders for this week's draw.I reserve the right not to spend.

Thanks @mumtoomany I've tried some ginger before a few times but no luck. I did plant one the other day so I'll see what happens.
I've tried lemongrass too but nothing happened which was disappointing. I looked at a seed packet at the garden centre for it too and it said seed germination can be erratic so maybe it is just difficult. I think I may just buy one already going from the internet to save the hassle/frustration.
Thanks @Frugaldom that's good to know. Can I do it now when they are in bloom or will that damage anything? I definitely don't want to harm the main tree.
I'm thinking of putting them in containers now until I work out exactly where I want them but getting them now means I'll have time to see if it takes.

Managed to get more seeds going. Including some salvaged from the dinner prep pepper seeds. I’ve done well with those in the past. I’m never overly bothered by what quality of fruit is born by salvaged seeds as I grow them intently for the animals predominantly and the trees (lemon apples) specifically just for the free tree for my garden and just because I can.I picked up some freebies, pretty plates and saucers (all odds) to go under pots and some magazines. I beautiful travel mag, a peoples friend and a my weekly. I do like a physical magazine in my bag these days but definitely only buy one on a very rare occasion. Always pick up a metro when I pass the station too, so many uses when I’ve eventually read it and I clip the crossword if not done.Life happens, live it well.10

So we had hail! My poor tomato that was outside is looking very sorry for itself! I swear I’m jinxed with them! I mean you don’t expect hail when it’s a lovely sunny day do you! Sigh.Well it may come back and I’ve some teeny ones growing. It’s supposed to be warmer tomorrow so I’m hoping to get the garden organised some with the pallets I have to create wind breaks and chicken proofing (if she’s ever allowed to roam again!) as well as make a decent compost area for next years needs. Fingers crossed I get at least some of that done.Life happens, live it well.8

Well the giddiness of the rain is right here. Need to get the new 750 litre water butt filled along with the 250ltr one. We are forecast rain here all week. I'll take that for now. Been busy at the back of our fence we have completed 2 smallish wood stores.
We are levelling up the ground at the side of a dyke there as it tends to flood our garden at the bottom of it. Some may think of us a cheeky but we are looking after the trees there too that are being strangled with the ivy by removing it as we go. It has already sapped life from one of the trees and this will cause it to fall over. It is a great little place as the birds are nesting in there and the bees are busy too. It is full of blackberry canes and we will collect some in the autumn. The neighbours have just thrown their cuttings and other rubbish over their back fences.
I am trying to get as much money together to completely finish work altogether. I am not enjoying it anymore yet needs must for now. Working on a plan
