Has anyone else noticed that the contents of the L!DL £1.50 fruit & veg boxes has gone into a decline? I expect this is due to the shortage of fruit & veg due to the bad weather experienced by growers at home & abroad. I have come to rely on a weekly well stocked box over the last few months, but last week's didn't contain much at all, & I didn't bother to get one yesterday - there were only 2 boxes available & they contained just potatoes & lettuce. I haven't had to buy potatoes since before Christmas as every box I have had has contained small & baking potatoes & I still have plenty left. I must have saved a small fortune!

Hello, would love to join you as I’ve just been made redundant but I’d like to get by without having to find another job so I’m trying to spend as little as possible, make money where possible and get my life minimalist and organised. Just wanted to say hi.
Just now I’m taking a walk to my local Waitrose because they have sent me a voucher for 50p off high welfare chicken livers making them just £1. I had them cooked in a very rich gravy on holiday in Spain with crusty bread and now they’re one of my favourite weekend lunches. I’ll get my free coffee while I’m there and have a look in the park
to see if the wild garlic has started yet.14 -
I was putting two salad drawers and 3 glass shelves from our old fridge into the car to take to the tip today. I then looked again and instead of fridge drawers I saw a start to my cold frame. I have been eyeing one up to buy, but will try these instead.
Do you think they will work to harden off seedlings before I plant them out?9 -
@Debsnewbudget good idea. I think its worth a go. I get fed up with windowsills of plants going in and out when I am hardening them off. I need to look at something like that too.
Has anybody got any ideas for storing root ginger. I dont use it very often. Does it freeze successfully.craft stash 2023 =161, 2024 = 119 2025 = £25.96 spent, 128 made and 5 mended,

Yes you can freeze it.3
-
If I have a piece of ginger that's too big for one use I grate it and freeze in an ice cube tray.4
-
If you peel it first you can just grate it while frozen (somehow easier than grating it fresh tbh!).Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

I freeze root ginger as it is and don't bother removing the skin! When grating it from frozen the vast majority of the skin stays on the grater and what gets through doesn't really make any difference as the bits are so tiny.

As usual I have not been posting or keeping up with this.
I have a bit of an anxiety issue that was triggered quite badly the beginning of feb, happy to have realised what did it so can be more aware in future...before I realised it resulted in me doing extra shopping to fill the food cupboards and also falling off the no smoking or drinking wagon. Having 1 drink always results in me having a cig so have to stop both to stop 1...ridiculous waste of money, health and time anyway.
I have managed 1 more frugal thing this week that may be useful to someone. I called up my broadband provider and asked them to match the deals I could get (free line rental). They quickly did so ive got that deal for another 2 years. I don't think I've paid for line rental for about 10 years, since we moved here9
