maryb said:Thanks C_J. I quite like getting veg from Sainsbugs in any case as they have quite a lot of loose produce and I can buy what I need and/or avoid plastic wrappers. So I shall toddle down there in two weeks time and fill my boots
By that time it's likely that all the big supermarkets will have those prices on same veg or slightly different- so certainly a time to stock up! benefit from a veggie war!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Possibly - but they usually have the same price per kilo on loose and packaged during the rest of the year unlike some other supermarkets
Nancy Birtwhistle did a series on her Instagram seeing how long she could make veg last by wrapping them in damp cloths and keeping them in the fridge. She managed a lot longer than I did, maybe my fridge temperature is wrong, but it certainly made them last a lot longer so I would certainly be able to buy enough to see me through the New Year. I find the supermarkets are really depressing after Christmas with lots of gaps on the shelves, so Heaven only knows what it will be like this year when there are gaps enough alreadyIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!2 -
I'm told you can keep carrots in sand- never tried- don't have room- and in a cool place.
I usually cut them up, slight microwave & then freeze them. Fine to go in casseroles / slow cooker etc
Potatoes in the dark - in paper bag/ paper sack. Keep away from onions
Don't like parsnips or sprouts anyway!!
I doubt very much if the cheap offers in this case apply to loose veg- it's a lost leader to entice you into the store! I remember last year (or was it Easter??!!) as soon as b/h w/e was over Aldi prices went back up.....
In this case it is fill your pockets / baskets/ trolley while the deal lastsBeing polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

As well as being discounted, these vegetables are usually over-ordered as the supermarkets would rather have a bit of waste than risk running out. In past years lots of shops have given away the overstocks free of charge in the days leading up to Christmas.1

In this case it is fill your pockets / baskets/ trolley while the deal lastsDig a hole - wider then deep. good layer of sand, Place the carrots in like clock numbers, add sand, more carrots between the ones already buried , cover with a good covering of sandThe sand acts as insulation from the cold and damp, but also keep the carrots moist. If you are going to try is, make sure your carrots are dry2 -
A bucket of cool wet sand is the perfect way to store fresh walnuts too.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.1

Please can I chose the organisation to which I am elected????
Really really don't have room for either of these (or any sand come to that!)Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
