Washing powdery vs washing strips

I got a free trial (pay for postage) on one of those washing strip laundry detergents from Earth Breeze
When I got it, I thought "This dissolves just like powder" and then I thought "Surely this is just a more convenient, more expensive and potentially less green version of washing powder"?
I say potentially less green because there's probably something in it to make those strips bind together into a strip which ordinary washing powder doesn't.
Am I on the correct path? Or a different one entirely, in my way of thinking?

If you're looking for an alternative to powder/liquid, have a look at Ecoegg.
I've been using one since the beginning of this year and find it fairly good and it lasts ages, did over 200 washes before refilling, I tend to do 30 minute low temp quick washes though.
Not amazing stain removal, but acceptable. I now put a drop of washing up liquid on ketchup dribbles etc but perfectly good unless your clothes are filthy.
They do a version for whites which I haven't tried, for now I chuck in a very small amount of powder with the Egg when I do my work clothes, chef's whites.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

I have been using an equivalent to the Earth Breeze strips. My understanding is that they are more like the liquid, dehydrated, than powder.
They're not my favourite laundry soap, but they are good enough.4.3kW PV, 3.6kW inverter. Octopus Agile import, gas Tracker. Zoe. Ripple x 3. Cheshire1
