Thanks Pip. All good suggestions. Im away at the moment but will investigate further when Im back.

I watched a few videos on causes of combi ovens tripping switches, and some suggest that - over time - steam from cooking can damage the heating element. One video even suggested heating the combi oven once a week becuase it doesnt do it any good not using it. (I havnt used the combi oven in the 4 years Ive had it!! [only the microwave part of it])

If it's any help, mine is nearly 23 years old and, over that time, has gone for weeks without use.

Do let us know how you get on.

Hi Pip. It turns out the heating element had corroded. The engineer said it was probably due to moisture from using the microwave (steaming vegetables etc).

He said that if an oven trips as its heating up (as opposed to tripping immediately being turned on) then 90% its the heating element thats corroded.

Thanks for letting me know. It does make sense.

Since you've seen an engineer, does that mean that it's been repaired?  Hope so.  Hope you get lots of use out of it now.

Thanks Pipney. Yes, all fixed. It cost £90 (inc parts) and took him 30 minutes. It was a fiddly job. I look forward to experimenting with it! :)
