Council tax band reduction for disability

Hi, 7 years ago surgery left me disabled . I needed to convert my garage to provide an extra bedroom / bathroom ( I now have 3 stoma bags). This was done under council approval as building regs were required, it was classed as a disabled renovation. I never applied for council tax band reduction because I was told ( by a friend ) as the conversion had resulted in an extra bedroom this would have cancelled out any band reduction. Reading the guidance on here though I’m not sure - I’m worried about applying incase it opens a can of worms as should me banding have gone UP because I had this extra bedroom?
Terrible anxiety after last few years so any decision is difficult.

As you have carried out the conversion, the band cannot be increased until after the property is next sold.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

The above is correct.
You should apply for a band reduction if one of the following applies- a room in your home that is mainly used by the disabled person, such as a room for treatments, therapy and dialysis
- an extra bathroom or kitchen used to meet the needs of the disabled person
- sufficient floor space for the disabled person to use a wheelchair, but only if the disabled person must use a wheelchair within the property
