when I did my sainsburys online shop earlier, I discovered by chance they have something called  hubbards food store. never even knew it was there. they have a 450ml tomato ketchup for .46p! so I ordered one. also lots of other every day stuff, about half the price of sainsburys proper. has anyone here tried any thing from hubbards food store? was it any good?

It's just their standard discount brand.  I use their Tomato Ketchup for cooking.  Their Salad cream is 'OK' if you want to do something like Coronation Chicken.  No different to buying discount tinned tomatoes.  Perfectly acceptable.

these and other supermarket discount brands seemed to appear during the covid lockdown.  I think they are actually catering items that have been "downsized" to something a normal house would want - so 500 grams or 500 ml of something rather than 5 kilos or 5 litres that a restaurant might buy.

They are just trying to copy Aldi and Lidl, so instead of being Tesco Value or Sainsbury's Basics they have Hubbards or Stockwells or Mrs Mollys or a few others.

It's their fake / house brands that used to be their value lines, they also have things like Mary anns dairy, that used to be their value lines for dairy products, J James & Family for their value meat lines

I mean I buy quite a bit of it, it's all fine, if you're going in knowing it's just a value / basics line

Probably not even that, someone at Tesco just decided to copy Aldi/Lidl and then Sainsbury's copied Tesco copying Aldi/Lidl.

We have tried about 1/3 of the Hubbards range, very happy with them; especially the red sauce, brown sauce, mayo, salad cream, baked beans, tomatoes, pasta, orange squash and some other items.

I often get 'Sainsbury's Offers' Nectar points on Hubbard products making them effectively even cheaper, e.g. I get a 10 points offer every week on their baked beans and use two consecutive offers to effectively reduce the price of a can from 25p to 15p.

Just to note: the chopped tomatoes have gone up from 28p to 32p to pricematch Aldi recently, but their plum tomatoes (in my opinion better) are still 28p.

You mean reduce from 25p to 20p as 2 points is 1p
