Costco - is it worth it?

Hi savers! Hope this is the right forum area for this question, it's been a while since I've been here regularly, but in yea olden days this is where the thriftiest of thrifters hung out
I started a new job and now get Costco membership access. Is it worth shopping there? The last time I went about five years ago the prices actually weren't cheaper than Lidl or Asda even, just lots of storage required.... I don't really want to add another shopping destination to my list unless it's really worth it - the nearest Costco is at least half an hour drive away so it's a definite destination shop.
Thanks, my wise savers, frugal on!

If you drive and you regularly drive past or near the costco, the membership is worth it for the fuel discount alone.
With regards to normal shopping, it is worth it for some things and not for others. We regularly do costco+aldi for 99% of our shopping now and it is loads cheaper compared to what we used to do before.1 -
Premium diesel 20p per litre less than elsewhere. Two tanks and I've more than covered a year's membership.
As for shopping instore, I think it very much depends on the individual.1 -
For what we buy I don't think it's worth it. We have family local to our neatest costco so will coincide visiting family with filling the tank. But I'm unlikely to renew on 12 months.
The raspberries however, although more expensive than the supermarket remained fresh a lot longer.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023
Make £2024 in 2024...1 -
They can be good for tyres. Limited range but seems to be premium tyres, fitted, at about £10 per tyre cheaper than blackcircles.
My nearest seems to be 143 miles away so I'll give it a miss0 -
Becoming a Costco member was probably the best thing I ever did!
The meat is especially of good quality, we like to bulk buy it, weigh it out and freeze it, and over time works out cheaper for us than going to the supermarkets.
Water is another good one, Costco's own brand at £3/£4 for 40 bottles. I typically buy Smart Water which has gone up to about £6 for 24 bottles, whereas I saw in B&M you could buy 12 for about £4.
Everything tends to seem more expensive because you're buying it in bulk and if you do the maths things work out exceptionally cheaper. Though admittingly, not everything is cheaper.
Unfortunately my local Costco doesn't have a petrol station, but as many others stated above, if yours does then the fuel is definitely cheaper and worth it too. If I'm ever travelling near one I'll always fill up there.
I often get people at work getting wind I have a Costco card and they'll ask me to grab things for them too to save them paying supermarket prices, which I'm always willing to do. Often for steak, coffee pods or cans of pop because they do work out cheaper!
Obviously depends on what you do buy and your personal circumstances. For us it's honest been a God send0 -
