Help - HMRC think I'm a millionaire!

I completed my self-assessment this year and I hope HMRC have made an error!!
I'm a working mum - I work 2.5 days a week in preschool and rent out my old one-bedroom flat for £600 a month.  HMRC have put my pay from all employments at £1,614,299.00 which it most certainly is not!!  Ii's more like £1614 for the year.  Obviously, there's been a decimal point mistake, but I cannot get through to HMRC to make the change.  I've been on hold for an hour and have resorted to snail mail to try and alert them to the problem

Does anyone know another way to alert them to the error before I'm charged interest for late payment on £300,000 at the end of January!

how did the error happen? did you do a self assessment or has this just popped up?
  • Log into your account - choose tax return options - view your return. If the details are as you state you can amend your return to more sensible figures.
  • Irrespective of what HMRC pre-populate you are responsible for entering the correct amounts.

So if you know £1,614 is the correct amount then you should enter that.  It's not HMRC's job to change that.

It looks like someone had entered two amounts - £1,614 and £299 - in the same box by mistake. As above check online and correct - if you submitted a self assessment you can also correct it, whoever made the mistake inputting the figures.
