Mileage

Hi all,
I didn't know where to post this so apologies if this isn't where it should be. I'm looking to claim Mileage Allowance Relief, however I'm unsure as to what will be accepted...
1) Any mileage I have been paid, has been paid to cover travel when working overtime. Sometimes this is at my "permanent place of work", sometimes it is elsewhere. If I have been paid it by my employer, does this mean I should be able to claim MAR on it?
2) There have been occasions whereby mileage claims I submit to my employer were not paid due to claim forms not reaching the relevant department via the internal post. Given I had to get these forms authorised, sometimes I gave up if the same form had gone missing more than once if the claim was for a negligible amount. Cheeky and probably unlikely I know (times are hard!)... can I also submit these miles for MAR?
Thank you in advance.

1. No - if you've been paid mileage to cover your journey from home to your permanent place of work, then that's taxable if it is 'normal commuting' - the fact you are working overtime wouldn't normally alter that.veryconfused20 said:Hi all,

2. Yes, provided they aren't for trips between your home and your permanent place of work.
Good explanation here: https://www.litrg.org.uk/tax-guides/employment/employment-benefits-and-expenses/what-travel-expenses-can-i-claim and this too is helpful: https://www.driversnote.co.uk/hmrc-mileage-guide/mileage-allowance-reliefGoogling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!2 -
Perhaps you could help with a further query I have Marcon, as it appears HMRC don't even know the answer...
The mileage reimbursement payments I have received from my employer were taxed. A website different to those you have listed, but specialising in tax rebates, suggests if the payments I have received were not untaxable then I can still claim tax relief on the whole 45p? If so, how do I denote this on a P87 when it asks what my employer has paid me in respect of mileage allowance?
Appreciate your help.0
