Mileage Tax Relief

I've gone to complete the form on my government gateway in order to claim for tax relief on mileage, however it is giving me no choice but to claim as though I've been paid 45p per mile. My employer has only ever paid 28p per mile. Is this going to change the amount of tax relief (as a percentage) that I receive back?

Difficult to comment as we can’t see the online claim form. However, from memory, does it not ask you to make the claim and then, subsequently, to detail any amount paid by the employer?Perhaps provide a screenshot?0

You claim for the standard amount and there should be a box to show how much your employer has paid you. You receive the difference between the two amounts. Remember although your employer pays you 28p you only get tax relief from HMRC ,not the full 45p.0
